About JMD
Julie Miller is an independent artist who works in a variety of mediums. Through her intense application of acrylics on canvas, pastels on paper, mixed media using modeling paste, newspaper, colored paper and various items to bring in depth and texture, she shares her vision with passion and movement. Her abstract works first beckon the viewer in with vibrant color, and then tempt each person to stay until they discover personal meaning amongst the thick textures and unusual shapes.

Julie also enjoys photography, and seeks to capture the scenes of nature that speak to the heart, as well as pieces of history that she can preserve through her lens.

Born and raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Julie has always been interested in painting, drawing and crafting. In 1997, she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Lehigh University and then relocated to South Florida in 2001 to further her art career and gain additional experience in shaping her style. She was featured in the 2004 Delray Affair and has created pieces of corporate art for display in lobby atriums, as well as many pieces for private collections. During the month of September 2008, her work hung on the walls of the Delray Beach Public Library in Delray Beach, Florida.  She is a member of the Boca Raton Museum's Artist Guild and exhibits her work monthly at Delray Beach's Art & Jazz on the Avenue.

“I try to paint or sketch my emotions and what is in my mind’s eye…to make people think about what they are looking at, regardless if they like the piece or not. A lot of things in this world today are very passive and don’t require people to engage their brains. I do the opposite with my work…I create art that moves your mind.” -Jules Miller
My Inspirations
I have to say there are many different things that inspire me...a blank canvas...a brand new box of pastels...colors mixing exactly the way I wanted them to... chocolate...walking on the beach at sunset...the sound of those waves lapping on the sand...tulips...lilies... the relaxed atmosphere of Key West and an amazing sunset in Mallory Square...slushies...my dog Blizzard...Dean, the absolute love of my life......the Serengeti and lions sitting 5 feet from our jeep...the green countryside of the moors in Northeast England; and then there are other times when my hand just goes across the blank canvas or paper and creates shapes and images that I just don’t know where they came from.

I also have much appreciation and admiration for the amazing abstract artists that paved the way for the wider acceptance of this type of art in society....Jackson Pollock, Wassily Kandinsky, Mark Rothko, Picasso, Joan Miro to name just a few.
