Jules Miller is an independent artist who works in a variety of mediums. Through her intense application of acrylics on canvas, pastels on paper, mixed media using modeling paste, newspaper, colored paper and various items to bring in depth and texture, she shares her vision with passion and movement. Her abstract works first beckon the viewer in with vibrant color, and then tempt each person to stay until they discover personal meaning amongst the thick textures and unusual shapes.
Jules also enjoys photography, and seeks to capture the scenes of nature that speak to the heart, as well as pieces of history that she can preserve through her lens.
Born and raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Jules has always been interested in painting, drawing and crafting. In 1997, she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Lehigh University and then relocated to South Florida in 2001 to further her art career and gain additional experience in shaping her style. She was featured in the 2004 Delray Affair and has created pieces of corporate art for display in lobby atriums, as well as many pieces for private collections. She has participated in the Boca Raton Art Museum’s Artist Guild and has showcased her work at Delray Beach’s Art & Jazz on the Avenue. In September 2008, her exhibit at the Delray Beach Public Library was entitled Our World: Real & Imagined, which highlighted some of her best works. A very proud moment came in Oct 2011, when one of her photographs was selected as part of the Be Inspired! Exhibit at the Museum of Art | Ft. Lauderdale. Currently she is a member of ArtServe of Ft. Lauderdale and the Broward Artist Guild and continues to exhibit her artwork and photography in both Broward and Palm Beach Counties.
Artist Statement:
“I try to paint or sketch my emotions and what is in my mind’s eye…to make people think about what they are looking at, regardless if they like the piece or not. A lot of things in this world today are very passive and don’t require people to engage their brains. I do the opposite with my work…I create art that moves your mind.” -Jules Miller
